2016 Year Review

We started off 2016 right by going to San Diego in January and reliving some memories from a 2007 band trip we did back in High School! It was our first time kayaking in the ocean (La Jolla), and we had fun whale watching while on the kayaks, and loved tide pooling at a bunch of different places along the coast. We also got to pet a 95 year old tortoise! We also had fun doing the Pinewood Derby with our Webelos Scouts and teaching them how to build snow shelters.

We've continued to enjoy learning new recipes and making up new ones.  Tannin loved learning to drive and going on tons of hikes! Taylor and Kelsey both enjoyed starting Arnold Swarzenegger's Blueprint work out plan, and then showed off their rippling muscles with a camping trip to Capitol Reef in March! We had so much fun camping and hiking all around Capitol Reef with an obligatory stop to eat some pickle pie and pinto bean pie!

In March we celebrated St Patrick's Day by going to Dublin...California, where my parents moved at the beginning of the year. We enjoyed going to Point Reyes with them and seeing whales splash in the waves. It was also fun to take them tide pooling and seeing my Dad's new office and where he works in San Fransisco.

Tannin dressed up as a bunny for Easter. We had a good time taking the scouts to Tails and Scales. And we had fun celebrating Mom Michelle's 50th birthday party. We also had a good time manning my work's booth for the MS Walk.

In May, Taylor graduated with his Bachelors Degree in Health Promotion and Education as a Health Provider, and then he blew his tire on the freeway while going to work! For Mother's Day, Tannin made Kelsey a worm pie (sweet girl). We celebrated our 3rd Anniversary by finding a new hike, and Taylor got a French Horn mute.  At the end of May, we went on a big Drake Family vacation to California and Disneyland.

In June we went on a camp out with the Scouts in Millcreek Canyon. Kelsey got to see Taylor do some really cool things at the Eye Bank. For Father's Day, we went to San Francisco to see Kelsey's parents and sold our Jetta and took my parent's Malibu home. We also helped man the booth for the MS Bike Ride in Logan, Ut.

July was a big month for us! We moved into a duplex home in Salt Lake City by Millcreek Canyon. We also went to Scout Camp with our Webelos. We decided to enjoy our new backyard by BBQing, and gardening. And Tannin had withdrawals from her favorite window spying spot in our old apartment. At the end of July, we went on our big vacation to Alaska! The day we left we found out we were soon going to be parents, so the trip was extra special. We had so much fun seeing glaciers, rainforests, glacial rivers, wild whales, puffins, and seals, kayaking the stormy sea, and hiking and rappelling down ice crevasses. On our way home, we hit up Vancouver, BC to see Taylor's Uncle Rob and Aunt Lee.

In August, we got to show my parents, Carlie, and Oma Yvette and Gpa Jack our new home. At the end of August, Kelsey flew down to Phoenix to be with Taylor since he had two Med School interviews. Kelsey showed Taylor her old home, playgrounds, and school. We also enjoyed hiking around the area together and Taylor trying cacti fruit for the first time.

In September, Taylor helped Kelsey move the Infusion Clinic to it's new digs on the second floor where they'll have more room. At the end of September, we finally shared our news with more people. And because of Kelsey's intense food aversions and fatigue, Taylor was master chef July through October. Luckily, most the food aversions were gone by Thanksgiving! In October we enjoyed a long weekend up in a winteryYellowstone.

At the beginning of November, the whole Justice clan was able to get together for a twin boy baby shower for Carlie! And we learned that baby Drake is going to be a girl!...and most likely a thumb sucker! Kelsey's parents came up from California and Taylor's parents hosted everyone for Thanksgiving. It was so much fun making pumpkin pie with my Mom again and I was excited thinking about how next year, our little daughter would get to join the fun!

In December, Taylor and Kelsey got to play French horn together again in a community orchestra! Our daughter will be the next greatest French horn player...

We are so excited for 2017! Can't wait to meet our baby girl and see where Taylor decides to go for Med School!

CHRISTMAS

Kelsey's Christmas party was in Deer Valley.
We got all dressed up for it, but had to cancel due to a massive snow storm that appeared when we got to Park City. More than we expected!
But we took pics of our fancy dress after arriving home.

The reason I usually hold the camera...look at my entertained face. So entertained.
Hallelujah Chorus with a community orchestra!
Our first concert since high school!
Taylor's work party at the SLC Marriott.
Like a boss, he owned his new silver bow tie.

Here's his white elephant gift.
But you must understand, he loves jumping spiders.
Tay's thought process:
White elephant gift: $5.    Pet jumping spider: priceless.

Cute!
Christmas Street and Bible Street
A fun tradition we do each year. A whole street dedicated to Christmas decorations, and then the street over is dedicated to Luke 2.

Making cookies with a health nut is difficult, because they're always trying to find ways to make things healthier and not lose flavor. Introducing our dairy free, protein infused, hemp seed oatmeal cookies.
Surprisingly, super fluffy and amazing!

We also love going to Gardner Village. Christmas is the time of the elves!
Re-did one of our photos from a couple years ago at the Kiss Contest Booth.

Christmas Eve! Stocking opening before Taylor heads to work.
Got the call to do an eye tissue recovery and had to run off to do the surgery.
But we at least exchanged gifts real quick just in case he was gone all night.

Finished the Grinch Christmas painting while Taylor worked.

In my stocking, Taylor got me a Crystal Growing Kit.

I got Taylor a moose hat ring toss so he can get more on Belle's good side in the future.

On Christmas Eve night, Taylor taught me how to do pencil art.
And afterwards he turned his into a goofy fairy thing...

Christmas morning breakfast from Chef Taylor. He made olive oil biscuits with fried eggs and ham. A little difficult to see, but the top egg shape is a gingerbread man, and the bottom is a bell.

And to surprise us right before church: a foot of snow! We didn't decide to look outside until 5 minutes before church began...Haha! Let's just say we didn't make it.

But to cheer us up, Taylor piled all the snow from our walkway and we were able to make an Octopus Igloo.

Snow Angels

 Octopus Fort

And our poor neighbors were snowed in with packed snow and ice. We had to help them out.

Drake family for Christmas dinner. Taylor showed off his moose hat.

He wasn't shy at all. Very proud.

Merry Christmas from the Drakes!

And Belle(y) Bean.
