Forts and Critters

Friday I came from work to a surprise from Taylor....sheets for a fort!  I have been telling Taylor this last month how much I wanted to build a fort with him, so when they were going to throw out surgical sheets at his work because they fell on the floor, he took them home instead.  So say hello to the Duck Fortress:

Above the fort....also, this may be the only time you are thankful for cinderblock walls because you can put duct tape on them and not worry about paint chipping
Entrance
The Love Nest.  Only Ducks Allowed

And of course we had to have a duck signal which Taylor made out of our flashlight/oven light

Cover with saran-wrap and color pink with a duck in the middle

Saturday we both had our own errands and service to do so we didn't see each other all morning but were able to go to my parents for a BBQ.  And after we enjoyed a Saturday BBQ with my parents, we went for a late night donut and slurpee run.  Just because....we missed each other all morning.  And we stayed up until 2 am watching Jack the Giant Slayer too.
Poised to go run to the car to get some slurpee and donuts

And look at this cool leaf-bug I caught Saturday morning with my neighbor kids
The funniest part was when it crawled up him and sat on the back of his head for 20 minutes

Labor day

We went to Antelope Island for the holiday

The Great Salt Lake is extremely reflective.  You could see birds, clouds, and mountains in the surface of the water

The rocks on Antelope Island were so interesting and had different layers of sandstone and quartz

Buffalo footprints in the salty sand

Walking into Salt Lake

See all those little dots in the water?  Those are dead flies

The water was so clear even up to our knees so that you could see the rippled salt-sand below

You can't see, but the sun made a reflection that cast little diamond like shapes on the bottom of the sand

And it wouldn't be a funny memory without a weird accident.  I was walking into the Salt Lake when the hard sand cracked underneath me and a big chunk went into my foot.  PS salt-sand is very hard and sharp
These little guys are brine shrimp that were plentiful in the water

A coyote on the side of the road

Dinner at a Chinese restaurant after where we ran into Gma and Gpa Drake

And...my first pay check at my new job!

Saturday we went to the Temple and out to dinner to celebrate my parent's anniversary
