We went canyoneering in Zion's. Here is a before picture of my nice white shoes....
And after our canyoneering day trip...
After being washed by a hose and a washing machine they are still brown and now dedicated hiking shoes |
We hiked up the canyon for an hour and a half on steep, sandy red cliff, with occasional sheer drop-offs that made the sandiness of the terrain unwelcome.... It was cool to see the river that created the canyon and runs through the canyon. Our guide told us that sometimes it becomes a flash flood after rain and causes big rocks and trees to move. He would point out debris up high in the trees (where no water was present/nearby at the time mind you) and different rocks and trees that had moved since the last time he came up. We would also have to climb rocks to get to the next rappel because of changing landscape. It was very exhausting and exciting. It was like hiking an uncharted landscape and then tying ropes to rappel down when we could no longer walk/climb because of a steep ledge or drop off.
Such a little river that can become so big and powerful! We got to drink right out of the start of the waterfall as it comes out of the red rock too because it was so pure and filtered by the rock |
Rappelling down a red rock tube into a pool of muddy water below that was more than 5 feet deep and FREEZING even though it was such a hot day! |
Falling off the rope into the water below! Perfect photo timing! |
Exhausted, scared, high on endorphins, and having a good time! |

WOW!!! So cool! I love the commentary with all these amazing shots! Incredible! Those flash floods are so dangerous and powerful! That was interesting to hear how the rocks were moved by the powerful forces of nature. So glad you didn't get caught in a flash flood! What an amazing adventure you had together!!! Love it! Love you! Mom
