La Vida Bonita

!Yo quiero mi novio las besa ahora aqui!

Haha, who knows what I said?  I've been speaking Spanish with my patients at the hospital so much lately.  I can comprende un poco and no mas.  Sometimes it really frustrating.  Especially when I give medicinas the patients haven't gotten before and don't know how to describe in my lousy Spanglish what the medicina does.  My goal is to get better.

My feet hurt so bad right now.  I worked four 12 shifts close together:  Sat, Mon, Tues, and Wed.  The shifts usually are 13 hours.  Tues and Wed were nuts!  Luckily, my Mom packed my lunch and put in a little snacky snack.....Cupcakes!
Tuesday's treat (Notice my super chapped hands? Yep, having C Diff patients will do that to you)
Today's treat....red velvet cupcake that matched my red velvet scrubs.
Best part of the past few days?
Spending time with this guy....who wears super bright colored shirts.  And yes, this one says SHINE.  The lime green truly shined.

I Will Wait for You

Isn't that such a great song?  It's been stuck in my head all week, except for the moments when Taylor is serenading me, then I'm just thinking about his songs.

I got a job!  Med/Surg (dream job for becoming a Hospice nurse)!  Here's all my supplies laid out for my interview.
And on the day of my interview it snowed! Cray cray!

And check out these awesome pumpkins Taylor and I made of each other.  I guess you can tell Taylor draws lots of cartoons....and I don't usually draw anything.

 And during babysitting........
Will colored his hands black and then......
Proceeded to act like a monster and attack Paxton
Later that day we had races down the hill (Will, JD, Pax)
Who will win???
And Saturday brought on a busy day of crafting with my Mom

And picnic eating
Taylor even brought a table cloth and candles!
And look at this wonderful tomato basil soup he made!
And it all happened in a nice little garden area
Later that evening I played tons of board games with some teenagers I babysit occasionally
Pirateology!  How to be a real pirate!
And then my Mom and I watched old family videos.  This is a video of some song I had composed when I was 13 and I no longer remember it!  But it sounded so cool!
And this whole past week there's been lots of mother-daughter walks around the neighborhood
Tree and mountain view on our walks

And some snuggling with this warm monkey that smells like lavender

Also, look at this nice night guard I got so I stop clenching my teeth
Great pic right?
And lots of praying for the New Yorkers, especially my Dad and aunt and cousin.

Nice note; Save your city

My relief society leader wrote me a note that said
Kelsey, I'm so impressed by you. You're so successful in everything
you do. You're going to do incredible things in this world. You're
very strong and you know what you want. I love that people feel
empowered when they're around you. It's a great influence. You're a
beautiful woman whose beauty shines from the inside out. I have loved
being in the same Relief Society as you. I love you!

I thought that was really nice to be told that I help empower people.  That's something I want to do as a nurse.  I'm glad I'm accomplishing it as well in my social group.   I think the most important thing you can do is empower others to help themselves.  I'd rather give someone knowledge so they can make a change rather than forcing a change on someone who doesn't know how to keep that change permanent.  Maybe one day I can do some type of education for  people who are also US citizens so they can better their lives and their health.
I know most people want to go to another country to save the world.  But I think your own small world needs saving first.  There are so many sad statistics that I hear about in my nursing classes and on the news.  Why focus on other countries when the US needs our help?  Can't you save the trip money and help your neighbor?  Anyways, sometimes it's a pet peeve of mine when someone is so gung-ho about saving some village in the Congo.  Yes, those people need help, but not money.  They need education and maybe just a small improvement on something they already have....after all, they've survived this far....they must be pretty competent and creative; don't pity them.  And hey, look at your neighbor who has a pregnant teenage daughter.  Why don't you go to the schools and talk about safe sex ed or be an example of someone that teenage person can look up to and want to be like...
I guess you can tell it's a pet peeve, huh?

I think the biggest difference anyone will make is in their own home, their family, and their neighborhood.  You're there most the days of your life anyway...not someplace in the Congo.

*I really do love all people everywhere.  I am especially thankful to be a US citizen and have all the freedoms and opportunities I enjoy on a daily basis.  I only wish that perhaps we could focus more on solving our own US problems first before we go tell other countries how to operate.

Nursing lab

Today I went down to BYU with my parents and showed them where I learned everything from catheters to PICC lines, and code blues to physicals.  My Mom took lots of pictures.
It was fun because I felt super knowledgeable and awesome.  I'm brilliant now.  It took 3 years, but I'm brilliant...finally.  Throw me that hospital slang and I can catch your drift, dawg.

I also finally mastered the multiple frame pictures thanks to my dazzling sister.
The first baby I saw ever be born!
Peace out, SWKT

We also took a field trip to Utah State Hospital.  My Mom's other "old stomping grounds."

I was so happy, I documented my departure quite thoroughly.

I was strutting my new found free self down the hospital corridor and therefore not caring if the picture was blurry
Adios mountain views!
Walking down the five flights of stairs
You burn those calories, gurl!
This last one is me jumping down the last flight of stairs in a way to celebrate my joy
Into my car....Goodbye dirt parking spot! I will not miss a messy car!

Peace out student badge

Sock bun

After a long day at work, this starts to look really good.
No it's not tequila; it's bubbly.  Bath bubbly.  As in bubble bath.
Remember, people, this blog is G.

Today my patient told me that I was going to be a really good nurse and he wished me luck with graduating.  It made me feel good that my patients like me.  These other two patients of mine saw me leaving to go to my car today and they smiled and said hello!  They liked me too.
Secret to being a good nurse?  Taking time to yourself to unwind and relax.
This is me taking a snack break at the hospital.

New topic:
So I learned about this secret called the sock bun.  And after I learned about tit, I went to church and realized tons of the girls there were wearing sock buns.  I knew their secret!
It was really hard at first to do the sock bun.
Here is the sock that I've had in my drawer for a few months.  I could never find it's mate so right away I thought of making this lone sock my upgraded hair tie.
After cutting the toes off, you roll up the sock.
End result just looks like a scrunchee.  Then you put your hair into a high pony tail on top of your head like so:
Now pardon the next few pictures.  I'm mostly doing this so my Mom and sister know, hence the clearasil on my face (white stuff).
It was so difficult to roll the sock up my hair... Really it got very frustrating.
Finally I succeeded.
And this is what I looked like the next morning (with no white stuff on my face)
haha, it's like those super staged before and after shots.

So it turned out pretty cute, but honestly my hair would've looked like this anyways, only because I did the sock bun I don't have tight ringlets on the insides of my hair.  So maybe that's a plus.

I wore my hair after it had been sock curled with my new skirt and necklace.
I don't usually wear such close-necked necklaces, but this one is yellow (plus), and it's fun to try new things.  I'm also starting to try to wear lipstick but that's an on-off thing with me.
