We had so much fun going to New York this past week! We got there Thursday July 23rd at night. Here's the details and photos of what we did!
Thursday:
We were running behind after dropping Tannin off to my Mom, and then having a long security line. But the worse part was that when we went to fill up my hiking backpack with water, the container wasn't screwed on correctly and it started leaking EVERYWHERE, right before we were supposed to get on the plane. I got soaked, and it took us so long to figure out what was going on that we were the last on the plane!
Taylor was welcomed to New York by some con artists who wanted to take our money at the airport. Luckily, we knew not to follow them.
Then we got into our taxi and Taylor experience car sickness from the constant stepping on the gas and braking of the bad drivers of NY.
When we finally reached our hotel, we met up with Dad who took us out to Chipotle and then picnicked with us in Central Park
We also had fun going to Time Square and getting some colored treats from the M&M store.
Just another ant in this huge world. |
No, I'm not pointing to the guy behind me, I'm doing the disco! |
So many treats! Crazy eyes! |
Friday:
After minutes and minutes of waiting, we realized our elevator was going to take forever so we took the stairs down 15 flights...then thought "nevermind!" and found another elevator!
40 floors is too many floors |
We biked Central Park for about 3 hours and visited Balto, Mother Goose, the Belvedere Castle, Mount Sinai Medical School, North Woods, and John Lennon's Strawberry fields
Childhood dream come true! Look at that happy face! |
I used to love reading Mother Goose books with my parents. |
Sometimes we had to carry our huge bikes up stairs to get to where we wanted. |
Belvedere Castle! |
On top of the turret at Belvedere. |
Finally an area where there weren't a ton of people all over Central Park! I had to take a picture as evidence. |
Living is easy with eyes closed... |
My Dad got home early from work and we met him to have lunch in Central Park.
Then Dad took us on the subway to Staten Island where we realized we were on a car too far back on the track so we had to move between the cars like a real New Yorker...twice!
The area between the cars. |
Look at those real New Yorkers! |
We enjoyed the Staten Island Ferry.
Statue of Liberty, New Jersey, New York skyline |
At Staten Island |
We walked over to the Financial District where we saw the Bull, Wall St, Maiden St, and where George Washington took his vow of presidency.
GRK Greek Restaurant |
We enjoyed NOT getting run over by bikes on Brooklyn Bridge.
My selfie-stick captured my "there's too many people on this bridge" face. |
Sunset. |
Later that night, we went to Time Square to see the Hershey store, Disney store, and Toys R Us
Can I have it, Kelsey??? Can I have it?!? |
KISSES! |
Enjoying the sky lanterns of Rapunzel's escalator. |
What if Tannin was this large?! Big hugs, maybe? |
Saturday:
There was a street fair outside our hotel on Avenue of the Americas
Walked around Rockefeller Center
This is that hat Dad got me from the street fair. |
Hunk! |
-Lego Store
Lego Tannin. |
St Patrick Cathedral
Then we spent the rest of the afternoon at Coney Island where we got Nathan's hot dogs!
Do you see any sand or is it all people? |
It's all people. |
Chili dogs, dawg! |
-On our way home, we walked past Carnegie Hall
And per tradition, we did the Central Park Loeb Boathouse row boating
Taylor did most of the work. |
I call this piece: Sunset Hottie on a Row Boat. |
I even showed off my rowing skills! |
1920s style. |
Dancing in Central Park
Bubbles
and Sheep Meadow
Sunday:
We witnessed Columbus Circle giving us the "bird."
Mean little kid... |
Took some pictures with Central Park bridges
Wandered around the Lincoln Center
And saw the LDS Temple.
Then, we headed to China Town where we found big fish heads ready to be bought and eaten
Finally found Little Italy
Enjoyed Lombardi's, the first pizza in America!
Do you think we can eat this all?? |
Not a problem! |
And Ferraro candy shop, started in 1892.
We wandered around the Flatiron district.
And then finished our day with the Broadway musical "Something Rotten".
Musical! With song and dance! And true romance! And for some unexplainable reason...the crowd goes wild each time! |
Monday:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
And we found Snickers! She kept following Taylor around... |
My knight in shining armour. |
And Taylor realized he deserved a golden goblet to drink out of, not some measly plastic water bottle! |
Wall of birds. |
After the museum, we walked through Central Park, took a nap under a tree, then got some ice cream to cool down.
Taylor also experience his first food truck.
My gyro! |
We met up with Dad and went to Bryant Park.
Saw the Chrysler Building and NYC Library.
And enjoyed the Empire State Building at sunset and night.
The elevator Dad goes to work in. |
Tuesday:
-9/11 Memorial
Reflective. |
The 9/11 Tribute Center was very interesting but very emotional.
Battery Park and Hudson River Walk
New Jersey skyline. |
St. Paul's Chapel where George Washington visited and attended church.
Many of these headstones were from the late 1700's. |
Rice to Riches rice pudding
Looks gross in this lighting, but was oh-so-good! |
Central Park picnic dinner with Dad
Skating down the rocks. |
-LOVE sculpture
It's true love. |
Wednesday:
We experienced the Museum of Natural History.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds... |
Swimming with the biggest animal in our world. |
Geologist nerd. |
It's a couple of moose! |
-Magnolia Bakery
Our cheesecake we shared. |
Shake Shack burgers for dinner at the airport
We came home on such a cold airplane you could see the AC and water droplets on the top of the ceiling that had frozen, and were dripping water down on us.
But at least we got two windows and a whole aisle to ourselves!
Enough room for Taylor to flex! Rawr! |
Thanks for the good time, Dad! Or as Taylor would say: "Thanks so much, dawg!"
(Taylor was far too kind and polite in New York, that he was confusing everyone there...)
